Biking to work and Motionbased
So I biked to work twice this week, and the second time I tried going from 7100 to Sunrise via Fox Mill road, which seems to cut around 1mile of my commute. I also seem to be getting a bit faster, and not having to exert myself so much, so that’s good. The bad news is that my knees are sore again, after the second trip in. I’ve also been playing with MotionBased. It lets you upload GPS tracks generated while biking, running, hiking, driving whatever, and then gives you a lot of data on where you’ve been and good ways to visualize changes between tracks. This is the first three trips into work:
The nicest thing about this long term is that it lets me keep track of whether or not I’m getting faster, and try new routes and see if they’re really faster over multiple runs. It also surprised me to see their elevation numbers. I knew I felt like it was really hilly, but I figured I was just out of shape. However, 1400+ft of elevation change seems pretty significant to me. As far as picking up the gear I talked about in my last post, I managed to grab a few things on sale at Performance Bike last weekend. I picked up this CO2 cartridge based pump for the road, and this Floor pump for the house. I also picked up a headlight which I think is a Cat Eye EL120. It seems ok, but I’ve not used it at night yet either. I figure it’ll be later october before I use it much. If need be, I’ll pick up a nicer light next year. I also picked up tire levers, etc for chaging a tire on the road. Looks easy but I still need to take the tire off and get familar with it, since I haven’t changed a tire in about 15 years, and never on a road bike. As far as a cycling computer goes, I think I’m going to get a Garmin Edge 301 next spring if I’m still doing this =)
